The People Guiding Our Mission

Camp Able's Board of Directors brings together a group of Abilene-area leaders, ranchers, educators, and business owners who share one thing in common: a genuine belief in the power of this mission. Each board member volunteers their time and expertise to guide Camp Able's growth, strengthen its financial foundation, and ensure the organization stays true to why it was founded in the first place. Many bring deep roots in the West Texas ranching and horse community, while others bring specialized knowledge in education, finance, and nonprofit leadership. Together, they provide the strategic direction that keeps Camp Able strong today and sets it up to serve generations of riders to come.

    Nadene Smith

    President

    Nadene resides in Abilene and serves as the Executive Director of Directors Foundation, which she helped establish to support non-profit organizations that demonstrate Christian principles and are known as helpers of people.

    Tracy and his wife Tracey reside in Abilene. Tracy is owner and general manager of Star Dodge and the Star Family of Dealerships.

    Lota Zoth

    Secretary/Treasurer

    Lota and her husband Cary reside in Buffalo Gap. Lota officially retired from her position as the Volunteer Finance Director of Camp Able in June 2026, where she served since 2014. She still plays a hands-on role helping with the transition and training our new Finance Director.

    Lalla Fowler

    Lalla and her husband Jim reside in Merkel. Lalla has just retired as an elite educator with Merkel ISD and was recruited to our board because of her expertise in the special education field.

    Erin Greathouse

    Erin, her husband Micah, and their daughter Kobyn reside in Baird. They own and operate Kaiser Creek Whitetails and Exotics, a cutting edge breeding and research facility that works with critically endangered species. Erin and Kobyn also breed and train world class show horses at 3G Performance Horses.

    Clay and his wife Kristi reside in Abilene, where they operate McCullar Properties, a successful farm and ranch realty firm.

    Ken Welch

    Member

    Ken and his wife Dixie reside south of Abilene and ranch in Runnels County. Ken comes from a historic line of ranchers and cutting horse trainers, and his passion for the industry runs deep, having watched his father, Buster, recover from a stroke at 72 years old.
