Why Volunteer at Camp Able?

Volunteers are not just helpful at Camp Able, they are essential. Every single therapeutic riding session depends on a team of dedicated volunteers who show up, get to work, and make it possible for our riders to do what they come here to do. You do not need any prior experience with horses to get started, just a genuine desire to be part of something meaningful and a commitment to showing up consistently for the riders who count on you. If being in the dirt isn't your thing, we have other volunteer needs within prep team, learning center, and admin. Whatever your strengths, we would love to help you find a place in the Camp Able family.

Finding the right volunteer role at Camp Able is less about what you already know and more about where your heart is. Whether you are drawn to the arena, the horses, the riders, or the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running, there is a place on this team for you. Our volunteer roles range from hands-on arena work like leading horses and walking alongside riders, to prep work, to office and administrative support. No single role is more important than another, because every part of the operation depends on every other part working together. Tell us what you love to do and we will find the right fit.

  • Horse leaders walk alongside the horse during sessions, guiding them safely through the arena. This is one of the most hands-on roles and plays a crucial part in keeping every session running smoothly and safely.

  • Sidewalkers walk alongside the rider during sessions, providing physical support, encouragement, and assistance as needed. Their presence gives riders the confidence and safety to focus entirely on their experience.

  • The prep team works behind the scenes before sessions begin, helping get the horses groomed, tacked up, and the arena ready for riders.

  • There is always office work to be done, from scheduling and communications to filing and data entry. If you are organized and detail-oriented, admin support is a great way to contribute without being in the arena.

What to Expect as a Volunteer

Getting started as a volunteer is simple. You'll need to be at least 14 years old, come dressed in closed-toe shoes and family-appropriate clothing, and leave the dangly jewelry at home. No horse experience is required, our team will train you on everything you need to know before you ever step into a session.
